Sheri L. Carriger

March 18, 1967 — August 29, 2023

St. Charles, MO

Sheri Lynne Carriger (née Gates) was born on March 18, 1967 in Evanston, IL and placed in The Cradle Organization for adoption. She was always very thankful that her birth mom chose this path over other alternatives.

She was adopted by Wilton “Bill” & Sharon (née Brandt) Gates soon after her birth. Sheri grew up in the Chicago area but primarily in Waukegan, IL where she graded from high school. After a short time at Southern Illinois University, she returned to Waukegan. This is where a friend invited her to Trinity Assembly of God (now Trinity Christian Center) in Zion, IL. Although Sheri had said the sinner’s prayer at younger age it was at Trinity where she rededicated her life to Christ and was called into the ministry.

In the fall of 1988 Sheri enrolled at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO to study Christian Education and she graduated in 1990 with Associates of Art degree in this area of study. During her time at Central Bible College she met the person that would later become her husband, Brad Carriger. Sheri and Brad were married on August 17, 1991. Shortly after their wedding they entered into full-time ministry.

During their 20 plus years in full-time they lived in Florida, Arkansas, and Missouri with most of their time in Missouri. And during these years God blessed them with two beautiful daughters. Riley Lynne and Taylor Grace. Since 2004 they called First Assembly Church home. Sheri enjoyed playing the piano and being involved in praise and worship. She was also involved with other ministries as much as she could be and loved to serve others. She was an amazing cook and at one time a very talented cake decorator. And she absolutely loved her family!

Around 2017 Sheri started experiencing some cognitive challenges and in 2020 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 53. However, she didn’t let it get her down and never stopped believing that she was healed but just not yet. Today Sheri is healed!! She is survived by her husband, Brad Carriger of St. Charles. Her daughters, Riley & Taylor, also both of St. Charles. Her mother, Sharon Gates of Surprise, AZ and her husband Steve. Her brother, Adam Gates, of Winthrop Harbor, IL and his three girls, Amanda, Megan and Helen and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am at First Assembly Church, 4750 North Service Road, St. Peters, MO on Saturday, September 16, 2023. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Convoy of Hope at www.convoyofhope.org
