Laval W. Shrum,

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Veteran

April 26, 1954 – may 8, 2025

Laval W. Shrum, age 71, of Warrenton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A proud American and decorated veteran, Laval lived his life with integrity, grit, and a deep devotion to both country and kin

Born April 26, 1954, Laval graduated from Elsberry High School shortly after he joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War 1972 - 1976. Laval carried the spirit of the Navy with him his entire life—anchored in courage, loyalty, and an unshakeable sense of duty. He often said that his time in the military shaped the man he became, and he remained a steadfast supporter of his fellow veterans throughout his life.

After returning home, Laval built a career in HVAC, where his hands-on skill and work ethic earned him the respect of many. Beyond work, he embraced life with enthusiasm—hunting, fishing, playing bingo, and enjoying the occasional trip to the casino. But more than anything, he cherished the moments spent with his family.

Laval is survived by his devoted wife, Kathrine Dian Shrum; his children, Vanita ( Colin) Corbin and Travis Laval Shrum; and his beloved granddaughters Emily (Nathan) Donaldson, Megan ( Morgan) Greer, Jazmin Shrum, and Stormi Shrum. He also leaves behind his sisters, Vonderah Rivera and Jackie Buescher, who shared a lifetime of memories with him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Shrum, his father Wilford Shrum, and sister, Lavonne Springmeyer.

Laval’s legacy is one of strength, love, service, and deep-rooted patriotism. He will be remembered as a man who stood tall for what he believed in, loved fiercely, and lived fully.
