John D. “Jay” Chezem, age 86, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on October 2, 2026.
Jay was educated as an accountant, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate his own trash company. Affectionately known by many as "Trashy," he brought hard work, dedication, and a unique sense of humor to his business and community. Beyond his professional life, Jay was a man of diverse passions. He was an avid reader and a talented photographer. His happiest summers were spent at "Hilltop," his beloved lakefront cabin in Sioux Narrows, Canada, where he embraced the peace of the outdoors. Jay approached every day with a joyful, positive spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. Chezem and Maude Esther Gallagher Chezem; his brother, Ronald E. Chezem (survived by Emilie); and his precious grandson, little Michael C. Davis II.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Hope; his five children, John D. Chezem II (Toni), Faith B. Owen (Walter), Dawn D. Whelan (Brent), Serall Chezem (Dan Arnold), and Michael C. Davis; as well as his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In strict keeping with Jay's explicit wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, his family asks that you honor his memory by sharing a laugh, reading a good book, or taking a quiet walk in nature to appreciate all the beauty and joy of life.
