Frank Milton Kellam, Jr., age 88, retired Air Force Colonel, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 7, 2019 in Saint Peters, MO. Devoted husband of Maria; loving dad to Frank III (Nazaria), Jonathan (Kristi), Laura Kellam and Jane Thorngren; stepdad to Christine Hutcherson (Eric) and Sandra Hon (Doug). Frank was blessed with 13 grandchildren- Elizabeth Thomas, Nicholas Hon (Kathleen), Heather Kellam-Lopez (Santiago), Frank Kellam IV (Jessica), Meredith Fullerton (Dustin), Emily Hon, Julie Thorngren, Katie Thorngren, Elizabeth Hon, Cole Kellam, Zachary Kellam, Cade Kellam and Eylesa Kellam. Frank also had 9 great-grandchildren- Victoria, Adalynn, Arjen, Isaac, Veronica, Benjamin, Olivia, Rosie and Daniel. They all called him "Opa".
Frank was born in Binghamton, NY on June 18, 1930 to parents Frank M. Kellam, Sr. and Ann (nee Tobey) Kellam. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Byrd (Jim). He is survived by siblings Charles Kellam (Shirley), Kay Allison (Ed) and Nancy Furth (Glenn).
Frank was our dear Opa, brother, uncle and friend to many.
After finishing high school, Frank attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD for two years and next joined the Air Force where he served for over forty years. He had a varied and interesting professional life, owning an Italian restaurant in Texas, working for McDonnell-Douglas as a technical writer, R.J. Smith Inc., Dempsey-Tegeler, Inc. as a stockbroker, and the Kansas City Corp in real estate.
Frank also had various passions and interests throughout his life including flying, singing, teaching, leading Bible studies and small groups at his church, and golfing. Frank enjoyed intense debates, not shying away from the usual off-limits topics of politics and religion. He was a friend of Bill W. and shared life with those he met through AA, always interested in others and making himself available to spend time with someone who was struggling. He was a very involved grandfather, attending school functions, sports events and family gatherings with his children and grandchildren. His most heartfelt loves were for the Lord Jesus and for his wife, Maria.
Special thanks to Ann and Tami of VITAS Hospice and members of New Covenant Church for your care and support.
