Ellen Yvonne Walters
Ellen Walters, 79, of St. Charles, MO passed away on June 16, 2025, after a short illness. She was born on November 9, 1945, in Charleston, IL and is the only child of Wilbert “Bo” and Bettie Rose (Arney) Walters. She grew up in Ashmore, IL, where she attended Ashmore Grade School, just across the street from her grandparents’ home. Ellen cherished her daily visits with her grandparents and often spoke of them with deep love and fondness.
A talented pianist and organist, Ellen played for the Ashmore Presbyterian Church and later studied music at Eastern Illinois University. One of the great joys of her life was singing alto in the chorus of the Bach Society of St. Louis, where she performed for 19 years.Ellen was known for her intelligence, sharp wit, kindness, and love of classical music. She was an avid reader and especially admired the works of Mozart, Strauss, and Bach. Her trips to Europe—visiting the places where her favorite composers lived and worked—were among her most treasured experiences.In recent years, Ellen reconnected with her extended family in Illinois, including her uncle Bill (B. Brad) Arney and the late Holly Arney, and her cousins Pam Foreman, Deanna Dixon, Randy Arney, Lana Arney, Larry Arney, and Julie Healy, along with their families. These renewed relationships brought her great happiness.Ellen will be remembered as a gifted musician, a loyal friend, and a source of humor and warmth to all who knew her.
A private family gathering will be held to spread her ashes. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellen’s memory to the Bach Society of St. Louis (https://bachsociety.org/), honoring her love of music and performance.
