Duane Alan Lammers

Duane Alan Lammers, lovingly known as “The Hammer,” passed away on July 19, 2025, in O’Fallon, Missouri, at the age of 64. Born in 1961 in Jefferson City, Missouri, Duane was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. A man whose quick wit, fiercely loyal heart, and tireless dedication to his work and his people earned him lasting respect.

Duane graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television Communication, which led to a successful and wide-ranging career in television and media. His ambition, however, began even earlier—while attending Mizzou, he was elected the youngest city councilman in Columbia’s history, a clear sign of the drive and leadership that would define his life.

His television career began soon after in station promotion and operations, where his work earned him a regional Emmy Award. He also played a key role in developing the popular 1985 Cardinals campaign, “The Heat is On.” He later transitioned into sales and quickly rose through the ranks to become General Manager. Duane was one of the youngest general managers ever hired at KFDX in Wichita Falls and continued building his general manager legacy at several stations across the country.

He later served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Nexstar Broadcasting, helping grow the company from two stations to over fifty. Most recently, he launched MAX Retrans, a consulting firm focused on retransmission consent, mergers and acquisitions, and mentoring the next generation of industry leaders—including his own children.

Duane is survived by his beloved wife, Nanette Lammers; his children, Jon Lammers with his wife Amy Cacace, and Alyson Markovich with her husband Kyle Markovich; his parents, Judy and Larry Lammers; his siblings, Darla Spene and Darren Lammers; and his cherished grandchildren: Quinn Lammers, Rory Markovich, and Jordan Lammers.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Duane will be remembered for his deep love of sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Buffalo Bills; his adoring devotion to his family, his appreciation for a good action movie (especially John Wick), and his lifelong admiration of the Rolling Stones.

His presence, humor, and wisdom will be missed more than words can express.
