Douglas P. Klein

d. January 21, 2020

Klein, Douglas Paul, 69, of Florissant, Missouri, died peacefully on January 21, 2020, with family at his side. Douglas was born at Depaul Hospital on November 18, 1950, to Walter Klein, Sr. and Marie Glaus Klein.

Douglas (aka Doug, Dougie, Uncle Doug) attended McCluer High School, later going on to earn a GED certificate of high school equivalency, and enrolled finally at St. Louis Community College -Florissant Valley where he studied general business and management.

Doug was married to Susan Sharp (Roberts) on July 19, 1990. They remained married for 28 years until her death on January 7, 2019.

Doug’s employment history began at Brod-Dugan Paint Company. He then moved to U.S. Paint Company, and until his retirement on Dec.7, 2015, at Schaeffer Oil Company. He specialized in warehouse operational management: shipping and receiving, inventory control, hazardous material handling, and traffic management.

Doug’s joys in life were his family, his long-time residence in Florissant “The Valley of Flowers”, his special country hideaway in Bay, Missouri, and fishing for smallmouth bass on the beautiful Gasconade River. As much as Doug loved a large family gathering for holidays, birthdays and weddings, he equally enjoyed private time at his “little piece of paradise” in Gasconade County.

Doug is survived by: his son, Christopher, his brother, Walter (Karen), and step-son Derek Sharp; grandchildren: Hailey, Brendan, Joel, and Sadie; in-laws: Helen Heidger Roberts, Maureen Roberts Dwyer, Nancy Roberts Sweeney (Patrick), Bill Roberts (Carol), James Roberts (Cindy), and Ann Roberts Recer(Todd). He will be missed by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to Susan, Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie Klein, sisters Lois Markwardt Atnip and Dolores Markwardt Starr, and by his step-son, Daniel Sharp.

A “Celebration of Life” gathering is being planned for the spring. The time and place will be announced through the family grapevine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Mother of Good Counsel Home, where Doug’s mother received such compassionate care at the end of her life. Their address is, 6825 Natural Bridge Rd., St. Louis MO 63121.
