Carol Christine Steinbach

Carol Christine Steinbach (née Wahl), 67, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 3rd, 2026.

Carol lived life with a big heart and an even bigger laugh. Born in 1959, she grew up in north St. Louis County and attended Riverview Gardens High School. After graduating from Southwest Missouri State University (Missouri State), she enjoyed a career in technical training and thrived on helping people learn.

Carol had a gift for bringing everyone together and making them feel like they belonged. Whether volunteering at her children's schools, organizing the Bridgeton 4th of July parade, singing with a choir, helping with a project, or simply gathering the people she loved around a table, Carol brought energy, laughter, and her whole self to everything she did.

She truly never knew a stranger. Her friendships stretched from childhood and college through PTA, Toastmasters, Parents without Partners, The Red Cross, several choirs, community organizations, and countless adventures along the way. She loved music and theater, traveling, crafting, playing games, entertaining, laughing, and finding just about any excuse to celebrate.

More than anything, Carol will be remembered for the way she loved people. She was a helper, a leader, a mentor, a loyal friend, and above all else, a mother and grandmother. Carol was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth “Betty” Wahl and the late Donald Wahl, and sister to Kurt Wahl. She was a devoted mother to her son Neal (Meredith) Steinbach and daughter Laura (Michael) Riley. One of her greatest joys was being Nana to her granddaughter, Anne Steinbach. She is also survived by her former husband and longtime friend, Darrell Steinbach, with whom she shared the joy of raising their children. Family meant everything to Carol, and there was little she loved more than sharing a story or picture of the people she was so incredibly proud of.

Her family will carry her love, her laughter, and her unmistakable spirit with them always.
